I wrote this letter to Marian Hossa
Not my best writing, but I thought I
would share it here.
Dear
Marian Hossa,
I
am a 19 year old crazed Philadelphia Flyers fan and I have not and will not get
over the fact that your Chicago Blackhawks won the 2010 Stanley Cup in my
hometown city of Philadelphia. But, there was one time that I smiled that
night: when you hoisted that Cup above your head.
Your
story hit me hard. You made it to the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals with the
Pittsburgh Penguins only to be defeated in 6 games to the Detroit Red Wings. In
the off season, instead of resigning with the Pens, you decided to sign with
the Wings. Who wouldn’t have? They were the Champions and a team that could
very well repeat the next season. You wanted to be a Champion because it has
always been your dream and you were so close…
The
following season with the Red Wings you endured another long playoff run. Running
over teams in the West, you and the Wings reach the final. And as fate would
have it, lining up for the opening faceoff for Game 1 of the 2009 Stanley Cup
Finals, you stare out onto the ice and see the Pittsburgh Penguins. Another
hard fought series came down to a decisive Game 7. Unfortunately, just like the
year before, you were on the opposite side of the celebration.
That must have driven you insane. You reach the
Finals back to back years with different teams and lost both times!
You
then decide to get away and sign with Chicago. Another hard fought season and
again you are at the Stanley Cup Final! Your third consecutive year with three
different teams! But, this time you look out onto the ice and see my beloved
Philadelphia Flyers.
Every
night you must have been awake, losing sleep, wondering if your dream of being
a champion will slip away again. You came so close the past two years, but it
slipped away…
June
7, 2010. Patrick Kane (who the Flyers should have due to that lottery system!)
dances around Kimmo Timonen and shots the puck... Where is it?! Leighton has
it… he has too… Why is Pat Kane celebrating… on my hometown team’s ice… in game
6 of the Finals… Where is that puck?! What?! No… no… It can’t be over… This was
the Flyers year…
I
was numb, crying. Upset that my team, my home towm city were so close, but fell
short. With tears in my eyes, I watched Jonathan Toews hoist the Conn Symth. Then
the Cup.
With each second passing, more and more tears are
falling and I thought to turn off the T.V. to stop torturing myself. But, then
the Cup was given to you. And I thought of what you must have gone through.
Because I was going through it watching you hoist that Cup up.
You
finally got to hoist that cup over your head. The pinnacle, you reached it. And
I smiled knowing how much pain you must have went through to reach your dream.
Marian
Hossa, you are a champion in more ways than one. By believing in yourself, your
passion for the game of hockey and working hard, you were finally able to
accomplish your dream! You give me hope one day that I will achieve my dream of
working for a NHL team as their Director of Public Relations. I hope one day
our paths will cross and I can shake your hand and thank you for being a true Champion.
The day I will finally get over the night your
Blackhawks won the Cup against my beloved Flyers, will be when I see those Orange
jerseys skating with the Cup! It does not look like the Flyers will be doing
that this year so, if I had to pick a team I'm pulling for you and the Chicago
Blackhawks. Just do not tell that to any of my Flyers fans!
Good luck but Let's Go
Flyers!!!!!
Sincerely,
Evan Rostron
For those that wish to relieve the 2010 Stanley Cup Final
It still hurts every time I witness this... How does that puck go in?!?!
